An Open Letter to Our Friends and Neighbors,
After a period of intense scrutiny, the Island Neighbors Board of Directors has made the very difficult decision to dissolve our nonprofit organization by the end of August this year. Our Board concluded that there is too much potential for duplication of effort with existing organizations and not sufficient evidence to justify the ongoing overhead costs necessary to sustain a new nonprofit organization over time.
We did not make this decision lightly. Since we started our initial planning, there have been some exciting new developments in the non-profit landscape on Bainbridge Island, including new directions and leadership at the Senior Center and new leadership at other non-profits.
By working with our nonprofit partners, we were successful in obtaining a grant from the Bainbridge Community Foundation to launch The Bainbridge Resource Network project. The Bainbridge Resource Network project addresses one of Island Neighbors’ highest priorities, the need for a reliable information and referral system to improve access to services and resources for Bainbridge Island residents. Even though Island Neighbors plans to dissolve, our Island Neighbors board members will have active roles in helping the Senior Center implement this new project.
We will be forever grateful for your trust and openness to new ideas,
The Island Neighbors Board of Directors
